Event Details

If you missed our sold-out event in Hollywood -- either because you were on the waiting list or because you're in Silicon Valley -- never fear. . "3D: Behind the Hype" comes to the Bay Area on March 31 with fresh panelists and a fresh outlook.

Where Hollywood focused on content, our evening in Santa Clara will focus on technology and market adoption. Clearly, 3D has a strong foothold in cinema, and Hollywood is readying a slew of films for summer, including "Spider-Man 3D". But in consumer electronics, the outlook is foggier.  While it's possible now to buy Panasonic TV sets with 3D capabilities for a roughly 20% premium, there are big hurdles to consumer adoption: lack of content; no standards; no existing market; those darn glasses; and the difficulty of asking consumers to commit to new TVs and Blu Ray players when they have barely digested their HDTVs. The future is bright, but when will it materialize?

We'll bring together a panel of 3D business executives, technologists and a Hollywood type or two to consider the answers. Come early to network with others in Silicon Valley who are making 3D happen.

Panel:
Eric Edmeades, CEO,
ILM Spinoff Kerner Studios; camera work, "The Cove", this year's Oscar for best documentary.
